Warren Buffett, one of the wealthiest people in the world, and an incredibly successful investor gave this advice in October 2014: Get a mortgage!
Why?
If interest rates go up, as they are predicted to do, you have just locked in a lower than market interest rate for the next 30 years! If rates go down, you simply refinance to the new lower rate. In Buffett’s words, this is how to “short interest rates” in your investing portfolio.
“It’s a 30-minute instrument if you’ve been wrong on interest rates and it’s a 30-year instrument if you’ve been right on interest rates,” says Warren Buffett.
“It’s a good way to short the dollar, short interest rates. It is a no-brainer,” he adds.
